DISTRICT TEAM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Athletes who want to represent AFS Fezile Dabi Cross Country at the AFS Cross Country Provincial Championship must comply with the following:

  • AFS retain the right to restrict the number of athletes that can be entered per age-gender category for each district.
  • The club / school represented by the athlete must be affiliated with AFS Fezile Dabi Cross Country (once-off league affiliation fee).
  • The athlete must be affiliated with a club / school that is affiliated with ASA under Athletics Free State (AFS).
  • The athlete must be in posession of a valid ASA license and display both the license number (front and back) of the running vest during competion.
  • The athlete must compete in the colours (vest) of the club / school that issued the athlete's ASA license.
  • The athlete must have participated in and completed a minimum of of four(4) Cross Country League events within the Free State Province.
  • The athlete must participate in the AFS Fezile Dabi District Championship event. The district championship also counts towards the number of leagues particpated in.
  • To be eligible for the AFS Fezile Dabi District team an athlete must achieve the age-gender category course time standard at one of the following courses:

INTER-REGION (TOP-20) DISTRICT TEAM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Athletes who want to represent AFS Fezile Dabi Cross Country at the AFS Inter-region Championship (Top-20) must comply with the following:

  • The Inter-region team will be officialy announced on 10 June 2026.
  • The club / school represented by the athlete must be affiliated with AFS Fezile Dabi Cross Country (once-off league affiliation fee).
  • The athlete must be affiliated with a club / school that is affiliated with ASA under Athletics Free State (AFS) and be in posession of a valid ASA license.
  • The athlete must compete in the colours (vest) of the club / school that issued the athlete's ASA license.
  • The athlete must have participated in one of the AFS Fezile Dabi Cross Country Leagues at Koedoeslaagte before 10 June 2026.
  • The athlete must obtain a top-20 ranking in their age-gender category event on the Koedoeslaagte course.

EXCLUSIONS FOR DISTRICT TEAM SELECTION

The following will NOT be considered and may exclude an athlete from team selection:

  • Track and field achievements will not be considered for cross country team selection.
  • Road Running achievements will not be considered for cross country team selection.
  • Trail / Mountain running achivements will not be condisered for cross country team selection.
  • Foreign athletes will not be considered for team selection.
  • Individual participants that are not affiliated with a club (Private) will not be considered for team selection.
  • Athletes with current or pending disciplnary / anti-doping hearings will not be considered for team selection.
  • Did not finish (DNF) and disqualification (DSQ) results will not be considered for team selection.
  • Achievements obtained from cross country leagues outside of ASA Athletics Free State will not be considered.
  • Achievements obtained from Schools Cross Country Running (SASA) will not be considered for team selection.
  • Achivements obtained from the The Fezile Dabi Cross Country Running Development League will not be considered.
  • Due to the exclusive nature of the event, achievements obtained from the AFS Inter-Region Top-20 Championship will not be considered for selection of the district team that will compete at the AFS Cross Country Provincial Championships.

SCHOOLS TAKE NOTE

  • Please take note of the difference between Schools Cross Country Running (SASA) and Athletics South Africa Cross Country Running (ASA). This league is an ASA league.
  • Scholars who want participate for their school in this ASA league can only do so if their school is affiliated as a club with ASA. All athletes must have a valid ASA license for this league.
  • Scholars of schools that are affiliated with both ASA and SASA may participate in both SASA and ASA Cross Country Running events.
  • ASA and SASA operate independently and there are significant differences between ASA and SASA qualification standards, team selection requirements, obligations, and liability.
  • Due to the differences between ASA and SASA, the achievements, results, and outcomes between them are not interchangeable for the purpose of qualification and team selection. Athletes must comply with the requirements and qualify for each federation independently.
  • An ASA-affiliated school is essentially an ASA club that is affiliated with the same name as the school.
  • It is for each school to decide whether, or not, to grant recognition and merit for scholars who participate in ASA events. Please confirm this with your school to avoid disappointment.
